FAQ

What does “hide the referrer” mean?

Normally your browser tells a site which page you came from (the referrer). FirstURL removes it, so the target site can’t see where the link was posted.

Is FirstURL free?

Yes. FirstURL is free, needs no sign-up and has no ads at all.

How long does my short link last?

Forever by default. Under “Options” you can set a validity between 1 day and 1 year. You can also delete it yourself via the management link.

How can I see where a short link goes?

Just add a “+” to the short link (e.g. firsturl.de/abc1234+) to see the target without being redirected. The redirect page always shows the target domain as well.

What is the management link?

After shortening you get a private link with statistics, settings and a delete button. It is shown only once – please save it. Your browser also remembers it under “My links”.

What happens to abusive links?

Links to phishing, malware or illegal content are forbidden. Anyone can report a link via “Report abuse”; we review and block it.
